In Belgium, BSH Home Appliances s.a. implemented a new leasing business model, the Papillon Project, to help low-income families reduce their costs with resource-efficient home appliances.
By working in a team, the social enterprise Samenlevingsopbouw West-Vlaanderen and BSH are aiming at replacing outdated home appliances with new, efficient ones.
Consumers are offered a selection of appliances in all product categories. This includes 10 freestanding Bosch appliances: two washing machines, two tumble dryers, three fridges, one freezer, and two dishwashers. These appliances are rented out to families in need, who are selected by Samenlevingsopbouw, for a 10-year period at a monthly fee of 9 Euros. All services are included in this fee.
At the end of the rental period, the appliances are returned to BSH for a second-life, spare parts reuse or recycling.
