Consumer & Society

Quality in every respect.

The quality of a product goes far beyond its actual benefits. At BSH, it is very important to us that quality is a significant criterion in our work, from development to disposal – throughout the entire product life cycle.

However, quality doesn't just play a role in the product life cycle. In the age of connected appliances, increasing volumes of data are being produced that simplify interactions or enable in the first place. The more extensive and more sensitive this data is, the more important it is to handle it conscientiously.

Sites certified according to ISO 9001

All BSH factories are certified according to the international ISO 9001 standard for quality management systems.

Data privacy & transparency.

Connected home appliances offer new opportunities for our consumers worldwide. Operating washing machines from the smart phone while on the move, or accessing individual energy-saving tips are features that can enrich our daily lives. Manufacturers rely on corresponding customer data for these new services. That's why the success of connected home appliances depends – in addition to convincing technologies – to a large extent on handling this data responsibly. BSH works continuously, in exchange with its consumers, on developing user-friendly, data privacy-compliant and secure solutions.

The satisfaction and enthusiasm of our consumers are at the center of what we do. The perceived quality of the products and services under our brands should convince our consumers. Every employee contributes to the effectiveness of the BSH quality management system and is responsible for safeguarding this within the tasks entrusted to them. We at BSH, however, also aim to always offer the best quality with regard to management, sales, customer service, the supply chain and processes in general.

The BSH Corporate Principles therefore contain the quality policy principles. These specify the key fields of action for achieving our goal.

Our quality principles:

  • Quality means understanding, fulfilling and ideally exceeding consumer expectations.
  • The consumer determines to what extent quality is fulfilled. Continuous improvement to this perceived quality is at the core of our quality management system.
  • We see it as our obligation to constantly strive for and improve quality – from the executive manager to the trainee.
  • Our BSH policies, regulations and processes are based on international standards, consumer requirements, our knowledge and our experiences. This knowledge and its binding observance and continuous enhancement are the basis for our quality.
  • Quality in all of our processes means doing things right from the start. Quality must be provided for in the products and processes from the outset. We consistently apply preventive quality assurance methods and tools.
  • Quality based on measurability and transparency. We want to make quality visible. We achieve this by selecting suitable quality criteria, key indicators for products and processes, and through focused quality reporting in order to drive continuous improvement.
  • Errors that have been rectified properly and permanently lead to sustainable improvements. We learn from mistakes with the aid of systematic problem solving. We apply this knowledge to similar use cases and thus improve the performance of BSH.
  • In our continuous improvement process we also look to the future in order to identify and evaluate potential risks for all processes, and derive improvements on this basis.
  • Our suppliers contribute significantly to the quality of our products and services. We therefore expect the same high standards of quality from them as we do from ourselves.
  • Our objective in accordance with the BSH Guiding Principles is to be the benchmark for reliability and quality.

Responsibility in the supply chain.

Our responsibility: To act in an ecologically and socially sound manner along the entire value chain. In so doing, our goal is to ensure that our suppliers give a high priority to maintaining minimum standards in terms of working conditions, human rights, occupational safety and environmental protection. These principles for dealing with our business partners are clearly and transparently anchored in the BSH Supplier's Code of Conduct.

Our suppliers therefore have to provide proof of a successfully completed social audit, following external certification. A specialized team in the Global Supply Chain monitors compliance with these framework requirements and is also responsible for annual auditing. An inadequate or failed audit can therefore lead to a renewed consultation or even to the termination of a business relationship.

Social Responsibility

The Community Chest Corporate Challenge

With Responsibility and Sustainability as one of the BSH values, we do not only run for health, but also run for the community. We are united to care about the society as a team.

The Community Chest Corporate Challenge is an annual marathon race organized by Community Chest, one of the most reputable NGOs in Hong Kong. Our participation in this event has been since 2001. For us, this charity event has become a yearly occasion to mark the new start of each year.

In 2018, we teamed up on 28 January morning to participate in The 2018 Community Chest Corporate Challenge. We had 25 representatives joining the 10K race this year. Not only internal colleagues, business partners were also invited to be part of this fundraising activity.

To recognize the efforts of the participating colleagues, we have an internal award ceremony each year for the Top 3 male runners and Top 3 female runners. Each of them will be awarded with a trophy. For 2018, we had Mr. Miu Tsz Yeung of Category Management team as the best male runner with the record of 0:50:37, while Ms Carol Chow of Administration team with the record of 1:05:26 was the best female runner. Congratulations!

Our charity partner: St. James’ Settlement – Appliances Donation

We are always eager to give back to the community and support the ones in need. Annually we would make appliances donation to some elderly as well as low-income families through the prgramme WEEE GO GREEN managed by St. James’ Settlement. It is an appliance and electronic recycling programme where they will sort out functioning appliances and give them to the needy for free. From the record since 2009, we have been donating 20 to 40 appliances each year. They include washers, refrigerators and cooker hoods.

In addition, we have hosted the “Technical Exchange Day” series with WEEE GO GREEN to have our professional technician experts to share their knowledge and tips with the EcoPark WEEE Recycling Centre technician team on home appliance repair and refurbishing to help increase the overall efficiency of appliance refurbishing for re-gifting to under-privileged families.

Since 2011, we have been co-operating with the St. James Settlement's at the EcoPark WEEE Recyclying Centre in Tuen Mun (WEEE GO GREEN),and have recycled and refurbished home appliances, shared our expertise, and donated home appliances to families with special needs. Participants include our staff and business partners.

Charitable Survey Programme

In order to achieve our charitable goals as well as to improve the quality of our after-sales service, from May 2015 onwards, BSH Hong Kong specially invites our current customers to take part in an after-sales service survey which is supported by St. James’ Settlement.

For every completed questionnaire, we will donate HK$20 to St. James’ Settlement to support their charity work.

We have been working with St. James’ Settlement as a long-term partner to shape our community through various types of charitable works and programs. Letter shopping and data collection for the survey are supported by the members of St. James’ Settlement rehabilitation centre. Through this programme, we hope to grant the less advantaged job opportunities because we believe that everyone can have the ability to contribute to the society.

Other than that, at every Christmas, we would participate in Gift or Give: by letting let business partners choose a X’mas hamper or donate the hampers to the needy every year, the donation raised were used to purchase necessities for the needy at St. James’ Settlement.

We are grateful to St. James’ Settlement for being our partner and grant us a chance to participate in meaningful deeds for the society together.
